ABSTRACT
Every month Google updates its databases. During and after Google updates its databases the rankings of websites change. A particular website's rankings might increase or decrease or not change at all. The search engine optimisation industry is employed to increase a website's ranking. A search engine optimisation specialist has a vested interest in the monthly Google updates, as they affect the rankings of websites. The search engine industry closely monitors each monthly update and has coined many terms to describe how Google updates its databases. This paper is a literature study and will focus on the Google update process as perceived by the search engine optimisation industry.
